Adventurers will be picked up early in the morning and driven through the dazzling Sacred Valley, cradle of the Inca civilization and dropped off at Abra Malaga at 4,316 masl altitude. Here you will change into the riders kit provided by us (gloves and helmets) after a 20 minute briefing by our experienced tour guide. Then the fun begins to move freely on quiet but challenging roads, passing through changing landscapes and ice covered mountains, you will not want to catch your breath until the first stop in Alfamayo about three hours from your starting point going downhill so in a short time you will feel the difference in climate due to the change in altitude and you will see changes in the vegetation. Upon arrival you will enjoy your box lunch provided by us, while contemplating the endless panoramas.

After a quick change and a dab of insect repellent, it’s onward and downward to Huamanmarca, site of a recently discovered Inca archaeological find. Your tour guide will give you the historical background and the rest you can fill in! Continue descending to 1500 masl, as the jungle edge intensifies and the small but charming town of Santa Maria looms on the horizon. Surf the internet, buy supplies or just rest your legs and enjoy a cold beer before dinner, traditional Peruvian food, served hot. Tonight you can take a hot shower in a family-run lodge and sleep in single, double or triple rooms.

Rise at 5:30 a.m., shake off your tired limbs and enjoy the best indigenous coffee prepared by your landlady for breakfast, which is at 6 a.m. Under the dawn sky you will start your hike, which gets steeper and steeper, until you reach the cozy family restaurant in Santa Rosa, where you can relax in hammocks, admire the coca plantations and have a snack while the family monkey entertains you. After a while you will reach the real Inca Trail, which winds up steep slopes and steep drops for about half a mile – be warned that this is not for people who suffer from vertigo! The descent continues for a little over two hours until you reach Qellomayo, a small village, where you will have lunch. Make sure you have saved enough energy for the final stretch, a hike along the Vilcanota River until you reach the delicious Colcamayo hot springs. Rejuvenate in the heavenly warm waters and forget your tired wake in these natural surroundings. In the evening after dinner you will sleep well in the family’s home.

Wake up at 07:00 am, have breakfast before taking our private transportation to the town of Lucmabamba, the entrance to another Inca Trail, which was discovered a few years ago. We are the only tour company that travels this part of the Inca Trail, so for three and a half hours you will feel like Adam and Eve walking among parrots in this tranquil Garden of Eden. You will be rewarded for your efforts with a view of Machu Picchu from the top of Llactapata, flanked by the grotesque peak of Salkantay. Your picnic here is unlikely to be forgotten for a while, looking down on all the tourists who took the traditional Inca Trail because they didn’t know! It’s about a 2 hour drive to the hydroelectric train station where the train departs for Aguas Calientes, the base town of Machu Picchu. Dinner at a local restaurant is included before retiring to your lodge with hot water and private bathroom.

An early ascent today as you will take the first bus to Machu Picchu at 5:30 am, arriving at Machu Picchu at 6:00 am, which will hopefully coincide with a beautiful sunrise! Your guide will leave no stone unturned, but feel free to challenge his knowledge of Inca history. Then you have free time to relax with the llamas and show off your photography skills. Those who still have the will can tackle Huaynapicchu, which actually looks down on Machu Picchu. A frequent bus service takes visitors back to Aguas Calientes, where they will take the train to Hidroelectrica or Ollantaytambo and then catch the bus to Cusco.
